Opteon YF refrigerant (R-1234yf) is a hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) refrigerant that was developed as a more environmentally friendly alternative to HFC-134a, the standard refrigerant used in automotive air conditioning systems. The double bond in the HFO molecule makes it much less potent as a greenhouse gas than HFC-134a, leading to a much lower global warming potential (GWP). In addition, HFOs have much shorter lifetimes in the atmosphere than HFCs, further reducing their impact on the environment. As a result, many car manufacturers are now using Opteon YF refrigerant in their air conditioning systems to reduce their overall environmental impact.
